A strangled quiet leaves the city lifeless. The metal gates of the restaurants and stores are secured, the intermittent car breezes by uninhibited by traffic, and only a few amblers linger near the empty street stalls. Safety is at home.
There is no need to say a word, no reason to cast a vote, no benefit to raising a voice. Green uniforms and black guns communicate it all. Peace is in submission.
The party points to the newly built roofs on schools, light poles in villages, and a legion of doctors sent to remote hospitals. Calloused hands accept cash and the choice is easy. Survival is in silence.
